An outlet for displaying members' work has been arranged at the Lordleaze Hotel, a 3 star country hotel close to the centre of Chard. The hotel has a restaurant and bar and hosts weddings, conferences and parties and our paintings are housed in public areas. The project has been running for several months now and there has been a modest, but steady, record of paintings sold.
All fully paid up Society members are invited to submit framed paintings to be hung at the hotel. There will be a changeover at approximately 2 month intervals and we work on the basis of "first-come-first-served". There are a few ground rules, please read these carefully as they also embody more information. Although many of the ground rules are along exhibition lines, there is to be no "5 year rule", so this is a chance to give some of your earlier works another airing.
If you would like more information please contact any member of the committee through the Contacts page. If you are interested in exhibiting please complete the on-line form below; in the first instance you will receive an automated response, this will be followed by a personal response confirming further details.
We are still testing the water with this project so please do not hesitate to ask any questions and to make any suggestions.
The Rules
- All entries must be the artist's original work and must be for sale.
- Giclée prints are not permitted.
- Paintings will only be accepted from members whose subscriptions have been paid.
- Paintings must be suitably framed with the glass fixings taped over. Screw-eyelets on the back should be fixed one third of the way down from the top edge of the frame and have string or wire stretched tightly between them.
- The Committee reserves the right to refuse work that is badly presented, badly framed, where space is restricted or for any other reason.
- Maximum size of framed work to be 80cm x 60cm (30" x 24").
- Paintings must be labelled on the back with the following information in block capitals: Artist's name, address, title of work, medium and price.
- It is assumed that works exhibited may be photographed for publicity purposes without payment of fees.
- On the appointed dates exhibitors must take their paintings to the hotel between 11am and 12 midday, and collect them from the hotel between 10am and 11am, or arrange for a deputy.
- Although the hotel will take all reasonable care, paintings are exhibited at owner's risk and there can be no liability on the part of the Society for works lost, stolen or damaged.
- The Society will label paintings with the Society's name, the artist's name, picture title, medium and price.
- Where an offer is made for a painting there is flexibility for exhibiting members to accept a "discretionary discount" arrangement whereby the hotel management is authorised to allow a discount of up to 10%.
- The hotel will take commission of 20% of the selling price.
- The Society considers this to be a public relations opportunity and, currently, will not take any further commission. However there will be a hanging charge of £1 a picture.
- Opportunities will be given to members in turn on a first-come-frst-served basis. Each member may submit up to four paintings at any one time and they will hang for approximately eight weeks at a time.
- Paintings sold within the eight week period will be replaced with "spare stock".
- As the Committee is "feeling its way" on this new venture it reserves the right to change the rules.
